A Heart for Madison, A Place to Belong
|
The Senior Adult Ministry (SAM) was organized in December, 1987, while Pastor Leonard Cone and his wife Tommy Lee were serving as interim. It seems there was a group of young couples who wanted and needed some baby sitter services so they could have a Sunday school social. A group of folks met at the home of Sue Raines and formed a committee to "keep the kids" while the couples fellowshipped. For a while the group didn't have a name. Then someone said, "Why not SAM - Senior Adults Ministering - because that is what we are doing?" The name stuck. So for some 24 years this group has been meeting needs wherever they can. The scripture verse for SAM is Psalm 1:3, "They are like trees planted by streams of water .....their leave do not wither." The SAM groups meets monthly on the first Wednesday, after the first Sunday, at 11:30 in the church fellowship hall for a meal and a program. Each month we have a "mission action project" that we do meet a need. Some months we plan a field trip, others we have special guests to come and share with us. Always we have good food, fun, and fellowship, meeting our needs and the needs of others.
